Five Cheap Ways to Enjoy a Snow Day

March 7, 2019

Snow is great! It is one of the better things that comes out of a cold and inhospitable winter. Enjoying the white stuff is even better, especially if you have a family and kids that can’t wait to play on a snow day.

However, it might end up costing you, and every unnecessary cost can be problematic during the winter when your overall living costs are much higher.

Thankfully, there are ways for you and your family to enjoy a snow day without spending much money.

1. Spend It at Home

By this, we don’t mean spending it indoors. However, you certainly can end it with a nice family movie marathon in the evening.

All in all, you can get the kids outside and have fun with them. Build a snowman, enjoy a snowball fight, go sledding, or something entirely different. There’s plenty of things you can do without spending a dime and straying too far from your neighborhood.

2. Enjoy an Activity Indoors

For the single people among you, you can still enjoy a snow day indoors as well. You can focus on a hobby of yours, for instance, you don’t have to spend money to enjoy the beautiful day, and you don’t have to go out either.

You can invite some friends over and play some board games for example, or you can paint, or maybe bake something. It all depends on you and what you love doing. You can also start making some plans for the future, like a vacation or something that’s equally fun to plan.

3. Pick Up a Shovel and Clean

If there’s nothing better for you to do, you can always shovel snow. It’s not a glamorous or a particularly fun activity, but you can still feel good if you do it others, especially the elderly who cannot do it themselves.

Plus, it will be much easier for you to get out of the house a day later as you won’t have to go through a wall of snow.

4. Go Ice Skating

Not all activities in winter need to cost a lot, some can be quite cheap, like ice skating. For a small fee, you can skate with a friend or a loved one for quite some time. Besides that, this is a great way to get some exercise in the season when most of us rarely get enough.

5. Volunteer and Help Others

A snow day is also an excellent day to go out and volunteer to help those in need. Help the elderly with groceries or by clearing snow for them like we already mentioned, or go somewhere where you can help the homeless.

By helping others, you’ll get the benefit of feeling very proud of yourself, and you’ll end up saving some money as well.

We at Illinois Lending also enjoy helping others through our business by providing people with loans that have no hidden fees, low interest rates, and are entirely available to anyone. If you’re looking to repay some debts, our loans are the way to go as they are one of the few out there that don’t aim to lead you into even more debt.
